A small bison herd
We have a small herd of bison on the farm. If you're interested in a skull, a hide or rug, or meat, this is the place to ask.
There's no set timeline, and we can't say yet what will be available or when. If you're interested, fill out the form below and we'll get in touch when we have something. We're also working on cows, chickens, ponies and horses.
The herd since 2000
My mom and dad started the herd in 2000 with 22 cows bought from neighbours who ran their own bison. Bison fit the natural prairie the way they saw it. I was 14 at the time, so I've had them for more than half my life.
The herd has grown and shrunk with the weather. At its biggest it was around 35 cows, plus bulls, yearlings and calves, about 75 head in all. A few years ago the drought got so bad we were feeding hay all year instead of grazing pasture, and we took the herd from 25 cows down to 6. Today it's about 15 head.
We raise our own calves and keep our own bulls. The well-being of the animals has come first since day one. That just means making sure they have what they need.
